Nervous dog posting here!

Quite nervous right now! A certain rabbit (he knows who he is!) encouraged me to fill in the Furvey, and to post it here.

Introductions first- my name's James and I'm a 22 year old dog, and I'm quite new to this whole furry thing. I've been identifying myself as a furry for probably the best part of a year now (though I've had my fursona much longer), and have read up on it, but have been quite nervous to get involved. Hoping to meet some new people and get some nice art drawn of my fursona.

Anyway, here's my furvey:

Yourself
========

What is your name?

James the Dog, though just call me James.

What is your email address?
I'd rather not post it publicly.

Are you male or female?
Male

How old are you? / What is your date of birth?
June 9th 1986

Where do you live?
Deepest Nottinghamshire in England

What are your interests/hobbies?
Furry and anthro animals- obviously. Cartoons- again, fairly obviously. I also do some filming and video editing, and I like listening to some music and watching music videos.

What do you do for a living?
I don't quite simply, for various reasons I'm not prepared to go into. I wish I could work- but it's not that simple.

How would you describe your personality?
Quite nervous and shy, especially around new situations and people, but once I get used to them I often come out of my shell. Sometimes too far- as I'm prone to waffling and talking total crap.

Do you believe in ESP? Do you consider yourself to be psychic?
That's one of those questions that it's impossible to give a yes or no straight answer to. There's too much unexplained stuff to deny it completely.

Are you a meat eater?
Quite simply- yes. My diet would conist of very little without it.

Furry media
===========

Who are your favourite furry characters?
Too many to name fully- favourites probably include Wile E. Coyote, Sylvester, Sonic The Hedgehog, Tails, the Foxes from The Foxbusters- I could go on for ages really.

What type of furry artwork do you enjoy viewing?
Stuff that's toony, cute, bright, colourful, and not in any way yiffy. I don't really care for the realistic stuff either.

What type of furry literature do you enjoy reading?
I don't read books, I've never been able to find myself getting into them. The nearest I can think of is when I used to read Sonic The Comic (that's not the American "Archie" one, but the far superior British one). Not really looked at any furry webcomics yet.

What types of furry media do you create?
I can't draw at all (which is why I have no userpic yet), and I don't know if my writing skills are too good. I do have half an idea for a furry TV series, but I don't think I'll ever be able to fill in the gaps or get it up to a reasonable standard.

What types of animal/furry themed decorations adorn your living space?
Very litle- it's something I don't show or talk about in real life out of fear of getting mocked and laughed at (which has happenned for virtually everything I've shown an interest in during my life). It's a shame, as I saw a goregous fox plush recently, but I didn't dare buy it.

Describe your ideal plushie.
I don't really know, it's not anything I've considered.

Costumes and collars
====================

Do you enjoy wearing fursuits and/or furry accessories?
Never have- I'd love to get a fursuit at some point, but don't know how the hell I'd explain it to people, or not get laughed at. But I can't deny that it's a massively appealing idea.

Do you feel 'furrier' when wearing a fursuit/collar/tail etc?
Never have, so can't say.

Describe your favourite/ideal 'furry' appearance.
As I've said I'd like a fursuit at some point.

Furriness
=========

What are your phenotype(s)?
Dog.

How/when did you discover the identity/species of your phenotype?
When I was 14. I don't know how, just that the idea of imagining myself as a human-like (I'd never heard the words "furry" or "anthropomorphic" at the time) dog character came out of nowhere, seemed to feel right and fit from day one- and no other animal seems right.

What conditions help you to enjoy/express your furriness?
Define "furriness", If you mean acting like a dog, then I don't think I do, so I can't think of any conditions that would.

How and when was your furriness first evident?
If you mean, acting animal-like, see above. If you mean, liking cartoon animal characters, then that's been the case for as long as I can remember. They turn something on (which I mean in an entirely non-sexual way) in my brain that nothing else (apart from possibly certain types of music) does.

How much of your furriness is 'instinct' vs 'learnt'?
See above

How does your furriness influence your thoughts and emotions?
If you mean my fursona? It's a character I think about a lot and feel I've become very closely assosiated with.

Has your furriness improved the quality of your life?
Probably- I prefer the idea of being anthro over being human- it's much more interesting.

What do you think caused your furriness?
Who knows, who cares?

Acting furry
============
I feel I've probably answered all the questions in this section above.

Furry thoughts
==============

Would you become an animal/furry, if you -couldn't- change back?
Maybe, maybe not. It's hard to really answer this really.

Describe your ideal physical form.
As I said I'm a dog- my ideal physical form is fully anthro- bipedal and plantigrade, and nails rather than claws. Black pawpads, with the cartoonish 4 fingers (well, 3 and a thumb) on each hand. Yellow-ish brown bodyfur, with dark brown fur on the hands and feet, and white fur on the neck and chest, and white stipes on the underside of each arm. The face itself is of the more wolf-ish appearance- the long muzzle and pointy ears, and dark brown hair/headfur. I also always wear clothes and shoes- I don't go in the nude and god knows what I might step in!

What kind of furry, non-sexual fantasies do you have?
For most of my life I've imagined myself living in a world that's basically like ours, but is populated by anthros rather than humans. It's just an idea which seems much more interesting than real life.

Religion/Spirituality
=====================

Is your furriness compatible with your religion?
I regard myself as Agnostic- so have no religion for it to conflict with.

Has your furriness led you to reconsider your religious beliefs?
Nope

Have you ever communicated with an animal spirit?
Nope

Do you believe that you were an animal in a former life?
I don't know whether I believe in past lives or not- yet alone what I was or wasn't if I did have one.

Do you believe that you have an animal soul?
I don't feel like an animal trapped in a human body, I feel like a human who longs to be an anthro (rather than a real, feral, animal). Whether that means I have an animal soul or not is a mystery to me.

Animals
=======

What animals are you most/least comfortable with?
Most comfortable are probably small rodents like mice, rats, hamsters andguinea pigs. Also rabbits, as well as small birds like budgies.

Least comfortable, rather ironically, is probably dogs. I know this sounds odd seeing as that's what my fursona is, but I've never really felt comfortable round them, especially ones that are big and drooly. I feel very nervous and edgy round them. We do actually have a dog now, though it wasn't my choice, and I was actually against it- though I have got used to him. I still don't feel comfortable round many other dogs though- especially my dad's pointers and sister's labrador. In fact, come to think of it, I'm probably practically the only person in the family that ISN'T a dog lover.

Do you believe that animals have ESP?
I don't know

Do you think it is acceptable to hunt/raise animals for food?
Really quite a complicated issue. Though I am a meat eater, it's still a tricky question- though of course it does happen in nature anyway.

Do you think it is acceptable to hunt/raise animals for fur/leather?
Definatly not. Especially considering you can get synthetic alternatives that, to me, look and feel no different. I personally don't like the feel of leather anyway- I could not wear a leather jacket and don't like visiting people who have leather sofas, I don't think they're nice to sit on.

Do you think it is acceptable to hunt/raise animals for sport?
Definatly not. Anyone who gets any pleasure out of the pain, suffering and death of another creature is sick.

Internet
========
What are your favourite websites?

In the non-furry thing, I probably spend most time on Digitalspy, YouTube, BBC News and Wikipedia. I haven't really had time to consider any furry websites my favourite, and the reputation of some puts me off from even visiting them.

What are your favourite furry mailing lists?
Never used any. In fact I've only ever used one mailing list, and never used newsgroups at all- they've largely really been supplanted by other things. I wouldn't even know where to start with using newsgroups.

Sexuality/Relationships
=======================

Describe your ideal partner.
I don't have an ideal partner at all- never pictured one, don't feel I want one.

What type of furry sexual fantasies do you have?
If you mean fantasies involving sex or sexual acts- then nothing.

Has your gender preference changed since discovering the furry community?
I was asexual before, and I still consider myself as such now- I can't see that changing.

What species of animal do you find the sexiest?
I don't.

What part of an animal's body do you find the most attractive/sexy?
As above, I don't find anything "sexy".

What cartoon characters are/were you attracted to?
Very, very hard to decribe. As I said- I'm an asexual, and for me the concepts of physical and sexual attraction are difficult for me to grasp. I have found there's a certain way cartoon animal characters grab my attention, and I like certain things about the way they look, but I can't really say if any of it's physical attraction. They're certainly feelings that nothing but cartoon animals can trigger though.
